Bill is a real estate and business lawyer. As the Firm’s Business Transactions Services Sector Leader and Chair of Cohen & Grigsby’s Real Estate Group, he regularly represents clients in connection with the acquisition, sale, development, leasing and financing of mixed-use, office, commercial, retail, residential and industrial properties. Bill also represents businesses in mergers and acquisitions, debt financing transactions and general business and transactional matters.

  • Representation of developer on its purchase of a former school property as the site of a $100 million development with 2 apartment buildings, townhomes and up to 3 office buildings. The project included structuring the transaction, the creation of more than 15 different entities, the purchase of property from the Pittsburgh Public School District, a subdivision and land swap with an adjacent property owner, negotiation of an acquisition and construction loan with the ERECT Fund, environmental matters, negotiations with investor groups and construction related matters;
  • Representation of joint venture among developers in connection with the acquisition, structuring, financing and redevelopment of certain historic buildings located in the East Liberty section of the city of Pittsburgh into a 127 unit apartment complex with new parking garage and retail space. This representation included real estate, tax planning and negotiations with multiple banks, historic tax credit investors and public entities;
  • Representation of Pittsburgh-based financial institution in connection with acquisition, structuring, tax-increment financing and redevelopment of property for mixed-use high-rise development in downtown Pittsburgh including retail, office, hotel and residential uses;
  • Representation of Pittsburgh-based company in land acquisition and development of new corporate headquarters campus;
  • Representation of Sports and Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County in connection with development, construction, leasing and financing matters related to Heinz Field;
  • Representation of hotel developer in connection with development, financing and management of hotel property;
  • Negotiation of many of the largest leases for office, retail and industrial space in the Greater Pittsburgh area;
  • Representation of regional developer in connection with the acquisition, development and leasing of numerous urban and suburban shopping centers;
  • General counsel to joint venture among leading aluminum producers engaged in the operation of one of the world’s largest bauxite mines. Representation includes corporate, labor and financing issues.
