Valerie is a Director in the Employment Litigation, Labor and Employment, and Workers’ Compensation Practice Groups. She focuses her practice on representing employers in a broad array of employment-related disputes, as well as providing advice to management on all aspects of employment law.
In addition to counseling employers on hiring, performance and conduct issues, ADA and FMLA compliance, background checks and drug and alcohol testing, Valerie conducts and oversees investigations of alleged employee misconduct and provides supervisory and employee training on a variety of employment matters.
Valerie also represents employers in employment cases involving allegations of race, age, sex, disability, national origin and pregnancy discrimination and defends employers against administrative claims before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and the U.S. Department of Labor.
Valerie has authored articles regarding workplace harassment investigations, and coauthored articles related to psychiatric injuries and the interplay between the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Family Medical Leave Act.
She has been selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of Labor and Employment since 2013 and is a frequent lecturer on employment subjects.
Valerie is involved in numerous professional organizations. These organizations include the Labor and Employment and Workers’ Compensation Sections of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Opera. She previously served on the Executive Committees of the Baptist Homes Society and Arsenal Family and Children’s Center.
Valerie coached Upper St. Clair High School’s Mock Trial Team from 2010 to 2013.
