  • Counseling start-up companies to develop intellectual property strategies – patent, trademarks, domain names, industrial designs, copyrights and trade secrets – to achieve both short- and long-term benefits, such as attracting investment, reducing commercial risk and providing successful exit strategies
  • Counseling clients on international IP protection by balancing the expense and degree of protection while taking into account market share, likelihood of infringement and enforceability
  • Conducting IP audits to assist clients in identifying and valuing their intellectual property to provide thoughtful and effective business plans and strategies and reduce costs
  • Conducting searches and analyses to assess the state of the art, patentability, infringement/non-infringement, freedom-to-operate or product clearance and patent validity
  • Managing intellectual property portfolios, including acquisition, exploitation, monitoring and enforcement
  • Preparing applications for U.S. and foreign filings in all areas of technology including electronics, computers, software, biotechnology, chemistry and material science, medical devices consumer products, mechanical devices and robotics
  • Conducting trademark searches, developing branding strategies, selecting and registering marks in state, federal and foreign administrative offices, and enforcing the marks
  • Drafting and negotiating intellectual property licensing and transactional agreements for start-up companies, including patent, trademark, and copyright licenses, software agreements, joint development agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and manufacturing and supply agreements

Technology Transfer

We negotiate with universities and other institutions to obtain rights to technology, generally through license agreements, in exchange for up-front payments, equity, royalties, or a combination of those considerations. We also represent universities and other institutions in such transactions.
