Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Forum and Cohen & Grigsby Showcase Pittsburgh’s Global Robotics Leadership

PITTSBURGH – March 15, 2019 – From Here to There…Pittsburgh Robots are Everywhere!, an event hosted by Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Forum and Cohen & Grigsby, P.C., will highlight the impressive advancements being made by the region’s talent, as Pittsburgh continues its rise in the robotics world. The event will take place on Thursday, March 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at AlphaLab & AlphaLab Gear.

The fourth annual event is curated by David Kalson, chair of Cohen & Grigsby’s Emerging Business + Technology Group, who will also serve as moderator for the panel discussion. Panelists will include John Bares (Carnegie Robotics), Jackie Erickson (Pittsburgh Robotics Network), Alonzo Kelly (Locomation), Joel Reed (IAM Robotics), and Sarjoun Skaff (Bossa Nova Robotics).

The event will highlight Pittsburgh’s longstanding legacy of serving as a critical freight and transportation and goods hub, while discussing the region’s innovative robotics advancements being made in the E-commerce, supply chain and logistics industries.

More than 150 leaders, students and representatives from Pittsburgh’s academic, research, business and investor communities are expected to attend the event, which will also feature interactive demonstrations and a question-and-answer session with the panelists.

A variety of local companies will be on-hand to showcase their products, including Agility Robotics, Gecko Robotics, Kaarta, Panacea, Petoi, and others.

According to a recent NEXTpittsburgh article, the Pittsburgh Robotics Network (PRN) has announced a new strategic partnership with the Robotics Industries Association (RIA), a national consortium dedicated to promoting robotic development in service and manufacturing. The significance for the Pittsburgh region is that the city’s existing robotics firms will now be placed in regular contact with more than 550 members of the RIA, a roster which includes dozens of companies, universities and researchers across the nation—in hopes of growing and promoting local talent and products.

“Pittsburgh’s ability to attract extraordinary talent and redeploy its existing manufacturing infrastructure has created an organic local renaissance that creates jobs and economic opportunity in the region—robotics is our Silicon Valley,” said Mr. Kalson. “While much attention is focused on driverless automation, our panel represents a cross-section of growth and innovation in other areas that are indicative of Pittsburgh’s future as a global robotics leader.”
