C&G Gallery Welcomes Teenie Harris Archive Presented by the Carnegie Museum of Art

PITTSBURGH – July 18, 2017 – Cohen & Grigsby has proudly featured the work of a legendary Pittsburgh photographer with its latest exhibit: Teenie Harris Archive presented by the Carnegie Museum of Art.

For more than four decades, Charles “Teenie” Harris photographed Pittsburgh’s African American community for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the nation’s most influential black newspapers. His archive of nearly 80,000 images is one of the most detailed and intimate records of the black urban experience known today. Established at Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA) in 2001, the archive serves as a steward for the community to discover and engage with its own rich history.

The exhibit features 30 photos spanning three decades of Teenie Harris’ prolific career, chronicling daily life in Pittsburgh in addition to visits from historic figures including Muhammad Ali, Louis Armstrong, Roberto Clemente, Duke Ellington and John F. Kennedy.

To make an appointment to view the Teenie Harris Archive at the C&G Gallery, please call 412-297-4900. The exhibit runs through Sept. 1.
