C&G Gallery to Display Work of Flourishing Pittsburgh Artist with New Exhibit from C. Noël Kennard

PITTSBURGH – Feb. 9, 2016Cohen & Grigsby will feature the work of Pittsburgh artist C. Noël Kennard in an upcoming exhibit titled “Flourish,” a series of themed collections focused on the study of flowers. The displayed works are printed on acrylic, aluminum and canvas, and include originals as well as limited edition prints. The exhibit at C&G Gallery opens February 12 with an artist reception and will run through April.

“Simply stated, my work is about observation and consideration: Observation of what’s around me and consideration of how these observations can be part of my artistic endeavors,” says Mr. Kennard. “Whether I design something or create an art piece, these two qualities are embedded in the work. The purpose of the work is always to share those aspects of observation and consideration. I have always been someone to wonder how and why we do things.”

The artist reception on March 31 will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at C&G Gallery, located in the firm’s offices at EQT Plaza, 625 Liberty Avenue. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Kennard and view his artwork. The public will have the opportunity to view the exhibit following the opening reception.

C. Noël Kennard was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, and also lived in Trinidad and Toronto, Canada. He studied architecture at Ryerson University in Toronto and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in technology of architecture and architecture, respectively. He now resides in Pittsburgh. Mr. Kennard views his professional experience as an architect and artist as a continuum with interrelated characteristics. During his years in architecture school, he took up photography to study architectural form. He developed unique views and perspectives of buildings using wide-angle lenses.

Mr. Kennard’s influences have come from experiences, individuals and processes. As a child growing up in Guyana, kite flying was a big occasion at Easter, and one of his fondest memories is seeing the sky filled with hundreds of kites creating a colorful mosaic. He feels that seeing so many colors simultaneously has had a subliminal effect on how he visualizes and composes his work to this day.
