The Firm’s Talent Management Team (“TMT”) is a standing, non-hierarchical group having representation from critical Firm management functions that is concerned with talent cultivation and leadership development initiatives, as well as process improvement, within the Firm. It includes representatives of management functions including Executive Leadership, Recruiting, Marketing, Personnel, and Associate’s Committee.
Cohen & Grigsby serves private and publicly-held businesses, nonprofit organizations, multinational corporations, individuals, and emerging companies. The Firm offers broad-based legal experience in corporate and tax, employee benefits, estates and trusts, intellectual property, real estate, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, international business, immigration, litigation, and labor and employment law.
Choice of Practice Area
To our associates’ benefit, they are provided the opportunity to work across practices and learn various legal disciplines. While each of our attorneys has at least one area of focus, they also do a considerable amount of work within a broader practice group.

Partnership and Compensation/Benefits
Associates are compensated on the basis of their contribution to the Firm and their potential, not only the number of years they have been practicing. We offer better benefits than most law firms, including a non-contributory pension plan, a 401(k) plan and excellent medical benefits.
Cohen & Grigsby offers the best of both large and small firms. Like large regional or national firms, our attorneys are involved in complex business and litigation matters around the country and the globe, yet our size allows us to maintain a level of intimacy and informality. Our “lean” approach to staffing often gives our associates more contact with partners and clients and more responsibility at an earlier stage in their careers.
Cohen & Grigsby has grown substantially since its founding more than 30 years ago, but it has also been a managed growth based on what is best for our clients and our business model. We anticipate that growth pattern to continue, but we have never engaged in growth for its own sake.

Our Director of Diversity & Inclusion as well as our Diversity Planning Committee meet regularly to develop, plan, and put into action events and programs designed to enhance and sustain Cohen & Grigsby’s commitment to the recruitment, retention and promotion of qualified diverse attorneys. The firm’s C&G Academy Continuing Legal Education courses, Cocktails & Conversations speaker series, C&G Connect Day, recruitment and sponsorship efforts are just some of the ways that Cohen & Grigsby demonstrates its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.
In both Southwestern Pennsylvania and Southwest Florida, we participate in programs and organizations focused on the enhancement of diversity and inclusion. We are a member of the Pittsburgh Legal Diversity & Inclusion Coalition and participate in the Corporate Diversity Officers Forum. Members of the firm also actively participate in the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA) Women in Law Summit, Collier County Women’s Bar Association (CCWBA), and the ACBA Institute for Gender and Equality. Many of our attorneys are represented on the ACBA Diversity Committee itself and other related committees involved with leadership and program development. Several of our directors are also actively involved in the Welcoming Pittsburgh Advisory Board, the Allegheny Conference Workplace & Diversity Development, Collier County Chamber of Commerce, Opportunity Naples, The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance in efforts to support workplace diversity throughout these regions.
We have a full-time Marketing Officer and a Marketing Committee to coordinate our practice development efforts. Marketing assistance and guidance are available to all attorneys, not just directors (partners).
Cohen & Grigsby’s advanced technological and communications systems allow us to service clients from virtually any worldwide location within a matter of minutes and our lawyers can quickly and easily access the Firm’s full network of resources from most remote locations. We have been recognized in local and national publications for our use of sophisticated technologies to improve our communication and decision-making abilities with our clients.
We are committed to providing our associates with the training necessary to develop to their fullest potential. Through our own C&G Academy, we provide to hands-on professional development training and continuing legal education in-house on current legal topics.
The Associates Committee is charged with facilitating communication between Associates and the Firm’s management with respect to matters of particular concern to Associates. Based on input gathered from Associates, the Committee will provide feedback to management, and work with management, to improve policies and programs affecting Associates in areas that may include, compensation, benefit programs, evaluation structure, pro bono programs, hiring and retention, career and professional development, training, mentoring, and other areas impacting Associates.
Mentoring & Career Advocacy
Mentoring at Cohen & Grigsby is a formal program whereby the Firm matches associate mentors to new associates and facilitates the building and development of peer to peer mentoring. All mentors and mentees receive continuous training, support and further involvement from directors as their careers develops. As associates advance in their careers, the peer to partner relationships are encouraged and supported through Career Advocacy, a complementary relationship developed to assist in the pursuit of an associate’s individual/personal developmental and leadership goals.
Strategic Learning & Development
Cohen & Grigsby’s Strategic Learning and Development Plan is intended to foster the development of associates. The Firm’s Talent Management Team (TMT) works with leadership and development consultants to bring associates interactive and dynamic leadership development programs intended to enhance an associate’s professional growth. Our objective is to provide you with tools that you can use to meet your immediate and long-term personal professional goals as practitioners and ultimately, as future potential leaders of the Firm.
