PITTSBURGH, PA – July 17, 2008 – Cohen & Grigsby, a business law firm with offices in Pittsburgh, PA; Bonita Springs, FL; and Naples, FL, will witness the elevation of one of its attorneys to the federal bench this summer. Cathy Bissoon, director and former group head of Cohen & Grigsby’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, will be installed as magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The court will administer the oath of office to Bissoon at a swearing-in ceremony on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in Courtroom 8B of the United States Post Office & Courthouse Building (700 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA).

“Cohen & Grigsby joins the entire legal community in western Pennsylvania in congratulating Cathy Bissoon on this prestigious appointment,” said Jack Elliott, president and CEO of Cohen & Grigsby. “Throughout her career as an attorney, Cathy has demonstrated an unyielding commitment to the highest legal and ethical standards and a firm belief in the rule of law, principles that are crucial in the administration of justice. These are also critical assets for anyone who is preparing to assume the role of federal magistrate judge.”

She has represented unionized and non-unionized employers in a wide range of employment-related lawsuits in federal and state courts around the country and before local, state and federal agencies. She has dedicated a smaller portion of her practice to representing employers in traditional labor matters such as arbitrations and collective bargaining. A frequent speaker, trainer and counselor regarding employment law compliance, Bissoon has been named one of the “Best Lawyers in America,” one of Pennsylvania’s “Super Lawyers,” and is one of only a few Pennsylvania employment lawyers to have been ranked by Chambers USA.

Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby in 2007, Bissoon was a partner in the Labor & Employment Law Group at Reed Smith in Pittsburgh. She also served as Reed Smith’s Director of Diversity and was the former firm-wide head of Reed Smith’s Employment Group. Bissoon has a B.A. in political science, summa cum laude, from Alfred University and a J.D. from Harvard University. A native of New York, NY, Bissoon, her husband and two children live in Mt.
