Appellate Litigation

The Appellate Practice Group delivers a full range of services for matters on appeal.  Our attorneys have experience practicing before all of the appellate courts in Pennsylvania, both state and federal.  In an appeal that was followed closely by the national legal media, we succeeded in having the state Supreme Court review a fundamental principle of insurance law.  Our experience extends far beyond Pennsylvania, however, to nearly every federal circuit and a large number of state appellate courts across the country.

Drafting briefs that meet the highest standards of persuasion and clarity is the bedrock foundation of the group.  We strive to ensure that every brief complies with the exacting rules that are unique to each appellate court and that create pitfalls for even the most cautious lawyer.  Familiarity with those rules allows us to devote our efforts to the substance of the brief rather than its form.

Beyond brief writing, our practice includes the more esoteric procedures on appeal, such as petitions for appellate review of government action, petitions for allocatur, injunctions and stays on appeal.  We frequently assess what types of orders are appealable, how to make a non-final order appealable, and when to file post-trial motions.
