Our Lawyers
A law firm’s only true asset is its people. We believe that the education, breadth of experience, and commitment of the lawyers in our Business Group are remarkable for a firm of our size. Our Public Finance Group has been consistently ranked as one of the most active bond counsel in the Commonwealth. Our Immigration practice is a national practice that normally handles more than 1500 active cases. It is a hallmark of our Firm that the majority of our group’s lawyers had prior experience at national law firms before joining us, and several of our lawyers are listed in the prestigious Best Lawyers in America. It is because of this depth and breadth of experience that we are able to compete effectively with large regional and national firms with respect to sophisticated legal transactions and representations. Our Clients and Representations
We do not publicly disclose the identity of our clients. However, we can note that we have a healthy, growing, and diverse client base, including companies in all stages of development. We also represent clients across a wide range of industries, including:

International Focus
We have particular experience in representing both foreign and domestic organizations with respect to cross-border transactions, and we believe that we are more active than any other firm in our region with respect to these international transactions. Several of our lawyers are fluent in one or more foreign languages, and we have developed a network of foreign counsel in various parts of the globe with whom we regularly work. This focus is driven in part by our Firm's internationally-oriented groups, including our customs and export practice, as well as our immigration practice group. We are particularly active in representing clients with respect to U.S.-European transactions, as well as transactions in Asia, with one of our attorneys being qualified to practice in both the United States and the Peoples Republic of China.
Our Team Approach
We employ a team approach to our transactional practice that starts with the appropriate staffing of each project both internally and with our client's personnel. Rather than over-staff, we try to keep our core team intact and involved throughout an entire transaction in order to promote efficiency and continuity. We are also cognizant of the significant role that our institutional clients can and want to play in their transactions. Accordingly, we typically work closely with our client’s in-house professionals, drawing synergies and efficiencies from their expertise and knowledge base. This is an important part of our team approach. Our efficiency and experience often is used by our clients as a selling point in demonstrating their ability to secure and close a deal. We also employ a team approach in situations in which we act as general outside counsel -- typically when the client has limited in-house legal staff. The lawyers on the client team commit to becoming familiar with the client, its business and goals on a nonbillable basis, to be available (through work, home, and mobile contact numbers) to the client on a 24/7 basis. The team then involves other lawyers within the firm as circumstances demand. This team approach ensures that the best services are provided to the client in an efficient manner. Our Vision
Cohen & Grigsby has grown over 1,400% from 7 lawyers at our inception in 1981 to over 120 lawyers in 2006. The Business Group has played a central role in this growth in size and reputation, and we plan to continue this role in the future. As part of our vision, we intend to continue to:
- Offer legal services at rates that are lower than those of our competition, and
- Expand our reputation by building our client base both regionally and nationally,
- Maintain our accessibility to our clients.
Above all else, we will remain focused on client service and value.
