Pittsburgh High-Tech Leaders Speak Out: Federal Freeze on Foreign Workers Hurting Local Firms April 24, 2002On May 23, 2000, a forum sponsored by Cohen & Grigsby in support of raising the cap on H-1B visas was held at Marconi Communications in Warrendale, Pennsylvania. Speakers featured from various industries included Marconi Communications, the Pittsburgh Technology Council, Rapidigm, Inc., and the University of Pittsburgh. All spoke in support of H.R. 3893, introduced by Representatives David Dreier and Zoe Lofgren, and S. 2045, introduced by Senators Orrin Hatch and Spencer Abraham. With the rapid growth of high tech industries has come a shortage of domestic workers. If U.S. high tech companies are to compete on equal footing with their counterparts overseas, the H1-B visa cap issue must be solved. At the forum, letters were signed by participants in support of this important legislation and have been sent to Senators Santorum and Specter and Congressmen Coyne, Doyle, Klink, and Mascara.
