Maureen is extensively involved in the negotiation of many of the largest leases and developments for office, retail, mixed-use and industrial space in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. She represents real estate developers, owners and purchasers of properties, financial institutions and landlords and tenants. She is a Director and a member of the Affordable Housing, Business, Public Finance, Construction and Real Estate Groups.

Experience

Maureen joined Cohen & Grigsby in 2000 and was promoted to Director in 2007. She focuses her practice on commercial real estate, commercial finance, corporate transactions and public finance.

Maureen regularly represents clients in connection with the acquisition, sale, development, leasing and financing of office, commercial, retail, residential and industrial properties, including mixed-use projects, multi-occupancy buildings, single-tenant buildings and condominiums.

In addition, Maureen drafts and reviews commercial loan documentation for public and private-sector lenders, management agreements, architects’ agreements, easements, licenses and other real estate-related documents, including title, survey and other matters.

She represents businesses in financing transactions and general business and transactional matters and has served as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel and borrower’s counsel in tax-exempt financings.

Maureen represents a regional developer in connection with the acquisition, development and leasing of numerous urban and suburban shopping centers and developments.

Maureen was instrumental in the purchase and development of 316 acres of property in Findlay Township, Pennsylvania, the purchase and then sale-lease back of 35,493 acres of property and the development of headquarters buildings there on for a large corporation in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Her representative transactions have also included the development and leasing of mixed-use projects and the $64-million sale of a 30-floor office building in Kentucky with lease back of certain office space within the building.

Additional Roles

Maureen’s professional involvement has included serving as a member of the Commercial Real Estate Women Division, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Bond Lawyers, the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Real Property Section, Women in the Law Division and Young Lawyers Division of the Allegheny County Bar Association.

Her community activities have included volunteering to help the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Greater Pittsburgh Adult Literacy Council, CREW Pittsburgh Foundation and the Hawthorne Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Honors and Achievements

Maureen was selected in July 2008 for inclusion in the Rising Stars Edition of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. The selection process includes peer nominations and independent research on candidates.

She was among a group of Cohen & Grigsby attorneys named in The Bond Buyer’s Municipal Marketplace, an industry "who’s who" of bond counsel and underwriters. Members of the firm’s Public Finance Practice Group are named in the 2002 edition. The firm served as bond counsel of $606.4 million of municipal bond issues in 2001, marking the second most in Pennsylvania.

Maureen has also co-authored "Advanced Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania" for the National Business Institute in 2001.
