Dean is a Director of the firm and a member of the Business, International Tax Advisory Services, Mergers and Acquisitions and Tax Groups.

Experience

Dean joined Cohen & Grigsby in 2002 and was named a Director in 2005. Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, he was an Associate at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh.

He concentrates his practice on federal, state and local tax issues for public and private companies; corporate, partnership and international tax planning issues; transactional tax issues; tax planning for high net worth individuals; mergers and acquisitions; and general corporate matters.

Additional Roles

He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Allegheny Tax Society.

Honors and Achievements

Dean serves as a presenter at educational seminars and writes articles about timely topics related to tax issues and general corporate matters.

For example, in 2006, he co-wrote "Self-Employment Tax Considerations in Determining Whether to Form a Limited Liability Company: Differing Conclusions between U.S. Taxpayers and Nonresident Aliens" for the Cohen & Grigsby Review.

He has co-authored numerous other articles for the firm's Review, including "Recent Amendments to Tax Laws Regarding Expatriation: A Reason to Obtain an E-2 Visa as Opposed to a Green Card?;" "Transfer Pricing: The IRS Proposed Regulations on Controlled Services and Intangibles Transactions;" and "Asset Protection Trusts: Where to Go to Protect Your Assets from Claims of Future Creditors."

He was the sole author of "Issuances of Partnership Profits, Interests in Exchange for Services: Proposed Regulations Would Place a Greater Burden on Taxpayers to Obtain Favorable Tax Consequences" for the Cohen & Grigsby Review in 2005.

Dean also was a co-presenter of "Legal Considerations for Closely Held Businesses" during an event hosted by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology in 2004. He also was a featured speaker discussing "Closely Held Corporations, Tax Issues and Planning Considerations in Pennsylvania" for the Lorman Education Services.
