Mr. Chiu’s practice focuses on e-commerce and international business transactions and general corporate matters.
Mr. Chiu's areas of interest include:
- E-Commerce and Internet law
- Technology licensing
- Assist clients with procurement, technology infrastructure, and web site development contracts including reviewing proposals for privacy, network architecture and security, and intellectual property concerns
- Internet domain name disputes
- International joint ventures and direct foreign investments
- Export control compliance issues
- Sales representation, distribution and reseller agreements
- General commercial contracts including terms and conditions of sale, purchase orders, vendor contracts, services contracts and sales contracts

Representative Matters- Routinely advise clients on E-commerce contract formation, data privacy and security obligations, website development agreements, internet connectivity provisioning, and hosting arrangements
- Negotiate telecommunications procurement agreements, outsourcing agreements, and application service provider agreements
- Negotiate and structure licensing agreements, technology development agreements, technology sharing agreements, OEM arrangements, and private labeling arrangements
- Routinely advise clients on export control product classification, customer, end-user and destination screening
- Advise clients on trade embargo sanctions programs
- Negotiates settlements for export control violations made prior to our involvement, including review of prior process and structure operations to satisfy enforcement requirements of adequate assurance of compliance on an ongoing basis
- Routinely counsel clients on structuring export operations
- Structure international and domestic product distribution and licensing systems that take into account the limitations imposed by local culture and law while attending to the business needs of the client
- Advise clients on encryption export controls
