Alex is a Senior Associate in the Immigration Group and focuses on employment-based immigration, including temporary and permanent visas, family-based immigration, naturalization and exclusion/deportation defense. He gained an insider's perspective of all facets of immigration law by working for the U.S. Department of Justice and traveling extensively around the world.
Experience
Alex's experience traveling to numerous countries and living abroad has helped him understand the special issues associated with immigration law. He has a special interest in cases involving all types of non-immigrant and immigrant visas; labor certification (PERM) and EB-1 visas; options and issues concerning health care workers/physicians, including 212(e) waivers of the two-year home residency requirement; Form I-9 compliance and enforcement; H-1B employer LCA compliance/enforcement; and Social Security card and driver's license assistance.
At Cohen & Grigsby, Alex helps to develop short- and long-term immigration and insurance policies/strategies for the firm and its clients as well as serves as the primary immigration contact for several of the firm's largest clients. He reviews and files all types of employment and family-based non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions/ applications with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Consulates, and related U.S. and foreign government agencies.
Alex previously worked at Cohen & Grigsby from 2002-2007 as a Senior Associate. From July 2007 to March 2008, he worked at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy in Philadelphia, where he helped manage the firm's largest client and assisted in the determination of policies and strategies affecting all firm clients.
He worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review, in New York City in 2001. In addition, he was a paralegal at Boros & Garofalo in Washington, D.C. from 1996-1999.

Honors and Achievements
Alex was selected in July 2008 for inclusion in the Rising Stars Edition of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. The selection process includes peer nominations and independent research on candidates.
He is a prolific writer, especially on topics related to immigration issues. In 2006, his article, titled "The Alphabet Soup of Hiring Foreign Physicians," was published in Behavioral Healthcare. In addition, he was quoted in a 2005 article, "Area Firms, Workers Value H-1B Visas," which appeared in the Pittsburgh Business Times.
He has co-authored four articles, including "An Overview of the New PERM Labor Certification Process" for a 2005 Labor & Employment Newsletter of the American Health Lawyers Association. A year earlier, he co-wrote "International Medical Graduates: Obtaining a Waiver of the Two-Year Foreign Residency Requirement" for the Allegheny County Medical Society Bulletin.
Education
As the son of a U.S. diplomat, Alex was educated in Australia, Thailand, Kenya, and Switzerland, as well as Connecticut and Virginia.
