Mr. Haggerty was more than 25 years experience representing private and public employers in labor and employment matters.  His practice covers the full range of workplace issues, with particular emphasis on collective bargaining, labor arbitration, contract administration, issues arising under the equal employment opportunity laws and the National Labor Relations Act, and the representation of  employers in federal and state labor and employment law litigation.  Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Mr. Haggerty was a partner and the former firm-wide Department Head of the Labor, Employment & Employee Benefits Department at the law firm of Reed Smith LLP.

Mr. Haggerty's ares of focus include:

  • Labor contract negotiations for large and small employers, including in the steel, coal, trucking, glass and service industries
  • Representing employers in more than 250 labor arbitrations
  • Counseling employers for compliance with employment laws applicable to both represented and non-represented employees, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, WARN and FLSA
  • Representing employers in union organizing campaigns and National Labor Relations Act proceedings
  • Defending employers in state and federal court litigation and before government agencies
  • Representing employers in civil and criminal OSHA proceedings
  • Representing school districts in contract negotiations, contract administration and litigation
  • Counseling and training concerning sexual harassment and union avoidance
  • Practical, day-to-day advice concerning discipline and discharge, hiring, promotion, reductions in force, voluntary retirement plans, personnel policies and handbooks, executive employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, and all other workplace issues
